Infinite resources and better combat arrive in Mortal Shell II
A big post-launch patch has already arrived for Mortal Shell II, and it is much more substantial than the usual first-week cleanup. Just days after release, Cold Symmetry has addressed several of the complaints players raised almost immediately, while also adding some genuinely useful quality-of-life changes.
One of the most welcome additions is the ability to respec a Shell. By using Mether’s Severance, players can reset their upgrades and get back the Glimpses they previously spent. That makes experimenting with different builds far less punishing and gives you more freedom to change direction if a particular setup is not working.
Progression is now much more flexible
Progression has also become much less restrictive. Glimpses and Tarcores can now be earned indefinitely, removing the pressure that came with having a limited amount of important upgrade resources. As a result, it is now possible to keep developing multiple Shells and Tarstones during the same playthrough instead of feeling forced to commit too early.
Combat feels better too, especially when it comes to ripostes. Their damage now scales with enemy health, which helps them stay useful against stronger enemies and in tougher modes like New Game+ and Night Mode. Improved invulnerability frames and several animation fixes should also make successful counters feel more consistent.
Getting around the world has received some attention as well. New Beacons have been placed around Fainweald and Mammon, while one dungeon now includes a teleporter after the Grisha pit fight. Small changes like these can make a big difference in a difficult action RPG, particularly when they cut down on long runbacks after challenging encounters.
Boss battles were another major target. Several encounters received changes to attack timing, hitboxes, animations and general behaviour, with the Monolith getting one of the largest reworks. Zmey, Droeg, Lost Child and several others also received fixes and balancing adjustments.
Performance improvements round out the update. Enemy numbers were reduced in a few overcrowded areas, while lighting, visual effects, crashes, frame generation and save-related issues have all been worked on.
For a game that only launched a few days ago, this is a strong first step. There is still room for further polishing, but seeing so many early complaints addressed this quickly should be encouraging for anyone already playing.
