LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight Faces Denuvo Criticism

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight sparks Denuvo backlash
System requirements

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight has come under fire from PC players just days before its release after Warner Bros. quietly confirmed the addition of Denuvo DRM protection to the game’s PC version. The anti-tamper software appeared on the game’s store listings shortly before launch, surprising many fans who say the information should have been disclosed earlier.

Players don't like Denuvo at all

The inclusion of Denuvo has immediately sparked debate across gaming communities. While publishers often use the software to reduce piracy during a game's launch period, PC players frequently criticize it over fears of performance drops, longer loading times, and potential impact on long-term game preservation. The late timing of the announcement has only intensified the backlash, with some users accusing Warner Bros. of avoiding scrutiny.

At the same time, players are also questioning the game's demanding hardware requirements, which many consider unusually high for a LEGO title. According to the official specifications, even the minimum requirements are aimed at achieving 1080p resolution at 30 FPS with upscaling technologies enabled. The game requires at least 16 GB of RAM alongside processors such as the Intel Core i5-10600K or AMD Ryzen 5 1600.

The recommended settings push the requirements even further. For 1440p gameplay at 60 FPS, Warner Bros. recommends hardware including an Intel Core i7-12700 or AMD Ryzen 7 5800X paired with graphics cards like the RTX 2070 Super or Radeon RX 6650 XT. The highest settings reportedly demand RTX 4070-level GPUs and 24 GB of memory, raising concerns that optimization may not have been a priority during development.

Many fans have expressed confusion over why a stylized LEGO game requires hardware comparable to some of the industry's biggest AAA releases. Others have criticized the apparent reliance on DLSS, FSR, and frame generation technologies to achieve stable performance targets, even at lower resolutions. The Windows 11 requirement has also become another point of frustration among PC users.

Despite the controversy, interest in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight remains strong. TT Games has described the project as its most ambitious LEGO Batman experience so far, featuring a darker atmosphere, expanded exploration of Gotham City, and deeper gameplay systems inspired by modern action RPGs.

Fans of the franchise were quite happy when they knew that the game was arriving sooner than expected, but with concerns surrounding Denuvo and the game's steep system requirements dominating online discussion ahead of launch, the PC release is already facing significant scrutiny before players even get their hands on it.
