Build your perfect demon-slayer in HellSlave II

Judgment day begins in HellSlave II: Judgment of the Archon

HellSlave II: Judgment of the Archon throws players into a dark fantasy world where humanity is trapped between the forces of Heaven and Hell. Six Demon Lords have spent thousands of years tearing the world apart, but Heaven’s solution is hardly heroic. The Archon of Judgment has arrived to destroy the corrupted world completely, leaving players with one seriously dangerous option: embrace demonic power, defeat the Demon Lords and stop divine annihilation before everything is erased.

Like the original HellSlave, the sequel combines dungeon crawling, turn-based battles and deep character progression with a striking hand-drawn visual style. However, HellSlave II feels considerably larger and more ambitious. Players can now explore a broader overworld filled with ruined settlements, quests, merchants, hidden lore and visible enemy groups. Its equipment system has also been expanded with randomised loot, numerous rarities, more gear slots and additional crafting options, giving treasure hunters plenty of reasons to keep exploring.

A darker dungeon-crawling adventure with its own identity

Fans of Darkest Dungeon may recognise the grim atmosphere, illustrated presentation and tactical decision-making, but HellSlave II follows its own path. Battles are fought from a first-person perspective, while its loot-heavy progression and extensive build crafting also introduce a touch of Diablo-style excitement.

The biggest improvement—and easily the game’s best feature—is its timeline-based combat system. Every attack, spell and defensive ability requires a specific amount of time to perform. Quick actions may allow players to strike again before an enemy can respond, while powerful abilities can leave them exposed for several crucial seconds. This makes every choice feel meaningful, as speed, interruptions, defence and ability combinations can be just as important as dealing huge damage.

Character customisation is equally impressive. Players can choose between Warrior and Sorcerer archetypes, explore six different disciplines and eventually pledge themselves to one of six permanent Demonic Paths. These paths add specialised supernatural abilities, allowing players to create poison-focused assassins, heavily armoured defenders, destructive elemental sorcerers and plenty of wonderfully overpowered combinations.

With its expanded world, improved loot systems and smart tactical combat, HellSlave II: Judgment of the Archon is a major step forward from the original. Anyone looking for a grim dungeon crawler packed with demons, dangerous build choices and satisfying progression should put it on their radar.

The timeline combat system sounds like the part that really changes how battles play out. Choosing between a quick attack and a stronger move with a longer delay adds more to think about than simply picking the highest damage skill.
