Horizon Forbidden West is apparently getting a sequel
Guerilla Games has just seemingly confirmed that they are making a second sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn, creating a Horizon trilogy. All this after the release of Burning Shores, the trailer of which you can find here.
New horizons to explore
In a posted announcement by Guerilla Games’ management, Studio Director and Executive Producer Angie Smets is confirmed to have departed her role to become Head of Development Strategy at PlayStation Studios. She has since entrusted the future of the Horizon series to a triumvirate of directors: Joel Eschler, Hella Schmidt, and Jan-Bart van Beek.
The key part of the announcement is in the last paragraph:
“We have full confidence in our new leadership as they steer Guerrilla towards a bright future, expanding the world of Horizon with Aloy's next adventure and our exciting online project.”
Given that Forbidden West ends with a cliffhanger and clues leading to another episode, this seemingly confirms we will see a Horizon trilogy.
And this is on top of a planned online multiplayer game. Back in December 2022, Guerilla Games announced that a new internal team was building the game with “a new cast of characters and a unique stylized look.” Apart from some screenshots and early gameplay footage leaked back in January, not much else is known about this multiplayer game.
Even more, we have the upcoming PlayStation VR2 game Horizon Call of the Mountain, a Netflix TV show like The Last of Us, and rumors of a Horizon Zero Dawn remaster for the PS5. It seems Aloy will have her hands full in the years ahead.
In the meantime, Burning Shores is out now. If you haven’t tried this brilliant open-world DLC, you can get the base game Horizon Forbidden West as well as a Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores PS5 key from our comparator today.
