Hazard Pay: Solve Dark Puzzles in a Dystopian Cleanup Job

Hazard Pay: Clean Up the Evidence in a Dystopian Puzzle World
Gameplay

Hazard Pay is a pixel-art puzzle game from Smitner Studio that turns an ordinary cleanup job into a strange and dangerous journey through abandoned laboratories. Released on September 10, 2026, the game puts players in the role of a contractor working for a mysterious client known only as IPT. The assignment sounds simple: enter contaminated facilities, remove evidence, clean the scene, and leave without asking too many questions. However, the unsettling environments gradually suggest that there is much more behind these jobs.

Solve Compact Puzzles While Avoiding Deadly Hazards

The gameplay combines Sokoban-inspired block pushing with grid-based environmental puzzles. Each location is built around compact, handcrafted challenges where players must manipulate objects, clear paths, gather evidence, and dispose of suspicious materials. Environmental hazards can turn a seemingly simple solution into a disaster, requiring players to carefully consider every movement before committing to a plan. The full game features more than 70 handcrafted puzzles, expanding considerably on the 16-level demo released in 2025.

Efficiency, Leaderboards, and a Growing Mystery

Hazard Pay also gives players reasons to replay completed levels. Every movement is tracked, with final step counts determining leaderboard rankings and allowing players to compare their performances with friends and other players. Meanwhile, the game's pixel-art presentation, dark humor, blood-soaked environments, and environmental storytelling create an unusual contrast with its methodical puzzle mechanics. As players continue following IPT's instructions, the increasingly suspicious nature of their assignments raises questions about who is really responsible for what happened inside these facilities. Le côté Sokoban avec les dangers sur place peut rendre les énigmes assez intéressantes. Avec plus de 70 niveaux, il y a aussi de quoi faire pour ceux qui aiment se prendre la tête
The Sokoban setting, with its inherent dangers, makes the puzzles quite interesting. With over 70 levels, there's also plenty to keep those who enjoy a good challenge busy.

Diseñar cada nivel a mano, en lugar de generarlo proceduralmente, se nota en lo compactos y cuidados que resultan los rompecabezas, aunque eso también limita bastante la duración total del juego.
Designing each level by hand, instead of procedurally generating it, is noticeable in how compact and well-crafted the puzzles are, although that also significantly limits the overall length of the game.

El contraste entre la estética entrañable de pixel art y los entornos empapados de sangre con humor negro crea una sensación oscura bastante efectiva que hace que la historia se sienta más inquietante de lo esperado.
The contrast between the endearing pixel art aesthetic and the blood-soaked environments with dark humor creates a rather effective dark feeling that makes the story feel more unsettling than expected.

En principio, creo que es bastante agradable. Simplemente será necesario que el conjunto sea coherente con lo que ya existe, porque añadir novedades para añadir novedades no necesariamente tiene mucho interés. Si la integración es exitosa, puede ser una evolución interesante.
In principle, I think it's quite nice. It just needs to be consistent with what already exists, because adding new features for the sake of adding new features isn't necessarily very interesting. If the integration is successful, it could be an interesting evolution.
