Claim Breathedge free on Steam before this limited-time offer ends

Steam users have another free game to add to their libraries, and this one comes with a pretty tight deadline. Following the recent Moonlighter giveaway, Breathedge is now completely free to claim on Steam for just 48 hours.

The giveaway comes from developer RedRuins Software as it prepares to launch Breathedge 2 in Early Access later this month. While the original game isn't exactly a household name, it has accumulated more than 5,300 Steam reviews, with 72% of players recommending it. That gives the quirky sci-fi survival game a Mostly Positive rating.

Originally released in 2021, Breathedge puts you aboard a wrecked spaceship with no other survivors around and plenty of dangers waiting outside. Your goal is to survive in the emptiness of space by gathering resources, crafting useful equipment, exploring wreckage, and figuring out exactly what happened to your ship.

Of course, this isn't your typical serious space survival game. One of the game's biggest selling points is that you're accompanied by an immortal chicken, while the absurd humor constantly clashes with the otherwise dangerous situation. You'll craft tools, pilot vehicles, operate space stations, and explore the surrounding debris field as you slowly uncover the mystery behind the crash.

The whole experience reportedly takes around 15 to 30 hours to complete, making the freebie particularly easy to recommend if you've got some time to spare. And considering you aren't paying anything, there's not much risk in giving this strange space adventure a shot.

There's a pretty obvious reason behind the giveaway, too. Breathedge 2 is scheduled to enter Early Access later this month, and giving away the original game is a convenient way for RedRuins Software to introduce more players to the series ahead of the sequel's launch.

Interestingly, Breathedge has been given away before, appearing as an Epic Games Store freebie in 2023. Still, if you missed it back then, this is another chance to grab it.

The Steam giveaway ends on August 9, so you'll need to claim it quickly before it returns to its regular price.
