God of War breaks records on Steam

It's confirmed. God of War's release on Steam is the event of the year. The game created by Santa Monica Studio and released in 2018 for PlayStation 4 has risen from its ashes once more in a new form. The PC port of God of War is one of the most anticipated releases of 2022, and the game has not disappointed those players that were eager to accompany Kratos and Atreus in their latest adventure. The game has been praised for the quality of its graphics, thanks to the superior capabilities of the PC compared to the PlayStation consoles. But the system requirements to play God of War on PC do not seem any problem for the huge number of players that rushed to play the game as soon as it became available last Friday.

God of War reached a peak of over 73,000 concurrent players on Steam just a day after it was released, pulverizing previous marks from other Sony games like Horizon Zero Dawn and Days Gone. With 97% of positive reviews on Steam, the game has had one of the best receptions ever in Valve's distribution platform. God of War is definitely the best launch of a Sony game on Steam, and it proves that the company is missing a lot of potential sales by keeping some of its games as PlayStation-exclusive. Players have been demanding PC ports for games like Bloodborne for quite a while, and they would indeed become a hit on Steam if they were to be released anytime. 

Although Sony indeed seems to be changing its policy about keeping certain franchises exclusive to PlayStation consoles recently, it only seems to apply to games that have been out for a while. It's quite unlikely that we will see games like Horizon Forbidden West on Steam anytime soon. Xbox Game Pass' success probably has a lot to do with Sony's change of policy, and it may not be the only step in that direction. There are recent reports about Sony overhauling the PlayStation Plus service to make it more similar to Microsoft's Game Pass service. It's pretty clear that if you don't swim following the current, you will probably end sinking to the bottom sooner or later. It seems that Sony is starting to move in order to offer a service that can compete with others on equal terms. We are yet to see the scope of those changes when/if they finally happen.
