AMD has announced that Call of Duty: Black Ops 7's debut on PC will feature FSR “Redstone” Ray Regeneration, an AI capability that improves the quality of ray tracing effects. Additionally, FSR AI Frame Generation will be included in the game through a post-launch update.
Black Ops 7 is the inaugural title to implement one of AMD’s “Redstone” AI functionalities. Unfortunately, it does not support the complete FSR 4 “Redstone” feature set. This indicates that AMD’s Neural Radiance Caching technology and ML Frame Generation features will not be included. However, Black Ops 7 will launch with support for AMD’s FSR 4 AI upscaler.
AMD’s Ray Regeneration technology serves as an alternative to Nvidia’s DLSS Ray Reconstruction technology. It leverages AI to recreate pixels that might not be accurately ray-traced or path-traced. This approach allows for enhanced detail without necessitating additional ray casts. Consequently, games leveraging ray tracing appear less grainy and more detailed. Without this technology, achieving such levels of detail would require a significantly higher ray count, which would adversely affect game performance. This illustrates one way in which AI can enhance gaming efficiency.
Available on AMD Radeon™ RX 9000 Series graphics cards, FSR ‘Redstone’ Ray Regeneration goes live tomorrow in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7.

In addition to Ray Regeneration, Redstone will eventually include FSR Radiance Caching (which improves lighting) and FSR Frame Generation, AMD's counterpart to NVIDIA's MFG for quicker frame rates.
It’s expected that the remaining features will be rolled out gradually, building upon the existing FSR 4 capabilities. For the moment, however, we can only access Ray Regeneration. It seems likely that the entire suite of Redstone technology will be available only for RX 9000 GPUs initially, though this could change in the future, and many RDNA 3 GPU owners are hopeful regarding this possibility.
