Square Enix announces Final Fantasy XVI's launch date

Although losing the prize to Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom as the Most Anticipated Game at TGA 2022, Final Fantasy XVI is also thrilling fans and enthusiasts worldwide with each new trailer. In its latest, titled REVENGE, the sixteenth entry in the crystal franchise finally gets a release date.

Proving rumors true, Final Fantasy XVI will launch globally on June 22, 2023. As usual with current games, it will come with two versions: Standard and Deluxe. Players who pre-order FFXVI will also get a bonus.

Final Fantasy XVI Synopsis

Final Fantasy XVI introduces gamers to an all-new standalone story in the Final Fantasy universe, an epic dark fantasy world that takes place in the realm of Valisthea—a land blessed in the light of the Mothercrystals, and where peace falters as the spread of the Blight threatens to destroy their dominions. The fate of the land is decided by the Eikons, powerful and deadly creatures, and their Dominants, men and women who have been blessed with the ability to call upon and wield them. This is the tale of Clive Rosfield, a warrior granted the title "First Shield of Rosaria" and sworn to protect his younger brother Joshua, the Dominant of the Phoenix, Eikon of Fire. Before long, Clive will be caught up in a great tragedy and swear revenge on the Dark Eikon Ifrit, a mysterious entity that brings calamity in its wake.

Final Fantasy XVI is produced by Naoki Yoshida, one of the most recognized and acclaimed names at Square Enix in recent times. Known intimately as Yoshi-P, he was responsible for restoring and turning Final Fantasy XIV into today's behemoth. The MMORPG, by the way, won back-to-back Best Ongoing Game awards at the TGA and Best Community Support.
