Fantasian Neo Dimension announces release date

The father of Final Fantasy, Hironobu Sakaguchi, appeared at PlayStation's State of Play to discuss his latest release, Fantasian Neo Dimension, and announced a release date. The RPG from Mistwalker was initially released on Apple Arcade in 2021, but now it's being published for consoles and PC by Square Enix and is set to release on December 5, 2024. During his presentation, Sakaguchi praised the legendary composer Nobuo Uematsu, creator of some of Final Fantasy's most iconic tracks like Prelude and One-Winged Angel. He also composed the soundtrack for Fantasian Neo Dimension.

Square Enix also unveiled a new trailer for Fantasian Neo Dimension, showcasing more of the game's story and announcing that pre-orders have already begun.

Fantasian Neo Dimension Release Date

Fantasian Neo Dimension will be released for Nintendo Switch, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam on December 5, 2024. In this RPG, players assume the role of Leo, embarking on a multidimensional journey to recover his lost memories and save the world from the mechteria infection. The game features turn-based combat but with some novelties to set it apart from the usual.

In Fantasian Neo Dimension, players must control the trajectory of their attacks. This allows magic to hit multiple enemies repeatedly but can also challenge the player by protecting an enemy behind a more defensive one. The game uses a system that may seem outdated for modern RPGs—random encounters—but Sakaguchi has made efforts to make it less intrusive. Instead of interrupting exploration with random battles, players can store these encounters in a pocket dimension. Once the player reaches a certain threshold, the game shifts into battle mode, allowing players to face all the stored enemies in one fight, optimizing time and earning some bonuses in the process.

However, the most standout feature of Fantasian Neo Dimension is its handcrafted diorama environments. Over 150 vibrant dioramas make up the game's entire world, offering a unique artistic direction while maintaining a beautiful aesthetic.

Fantasian Neo Dimension is just one of the many RPGs in Square Enix's lineup for this year. In October, we'll see the release of Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven, followed by Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake in November. The year's final quarter will be a treat for JRPG fans from Square Enix.
