Buckshot Roulette’s eight-million-copy success is no accident
Some games need giant worlds, enormous teams and years of development to get noticed. Buckshot Roulette needed one developer, one shotgun and one deeply unsettling opponent sitting across the table. Created by solo developer Mike Klubnika, this small horror game has grown into one of the biggest indie success stories of recent years.
The core idea is wonderfully simple and completely unhinged. Buckshot Roulette takes the rules of Russian roulette and swaps the revolver for a 12-gauge shotgun. You sit opposite the Dealer while live and blank shells are loaded into the weapon. On each turn, you choose whether to fire at yourself or your opponent, but items such as magnifying glasses, handcuffs and cigarettes let you gather information, manipulate the round or recover health. What initially looks like pure luck quickly becomes a tense mix of probability, bluffing and risky decision-making.
From viral experiment to eight million copies sold
That simple formula has clearly connected with players. Buckshot Roulette launched on itch.io in December 2023 before arriving on Steam in April 2024, and its sales continued climbing long after the first viral wave. By December 2025, the game had sold more than eight million copies, doubling its four-million milestone from the previous year. Its expansion to more platforms has also introduced the Dealer’s terrifying little table game to an even larger audience.
Much like Meccha Chameleon, another indie title that found major success through a memorable concept, frequent updates and strong word of mouth, Buckshot Roulette proves that a clever idea can be more valuable than a gigantic budget. Multiplayer makes the experience even more unpredictable, letting up to four players bluff, betray each other and confidently make decisions that immediately turn out to be terrible. Nothing builds friendship quite like handing someone a shotgun and claiming you are “pretty sure” the next shell is blank.
The best part is that Buckshot Roulette does not ask you to gamble your entire gaming budget. The game is incredibly cheap if you use our price comparison tool, making it one of those easy recommendations where the price is almost as surprising as the shotgun waiting on the table.
Seriously, at this price, you need to try Buckshot Roulette right now. Use our price comparison tool to find the best Buckshot Roulette deals on DLCOMPARE, grab your copy for less and see whether you can outsmart the Dealer—or become another unfortunate lesson in probability.
