It turns out gamers' appetite for sea shanties and cutlass-swinging chaos hasn't aged a single day. Vantage Studios and Ubisoft have officially confirmed that Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced plundered a eye-watering 3 million sales in its very first week afloat. The modernized pirate adventure simulator launched on July 9 with a terrifyingly fast start, selling 2 million copies on its opening day alone before sailing past the 3-million milestone with full wind in its sails.

Impactful momentum

Led by the crew over at Ubisoft Singapore, Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced is a ground-up reconstruction forged in Ubisoft's latest Anvil engine. Players step back into the rugged boots of Edward Kenway, a glory-obsessed pirate captain caught slap-bang in the middle of the shadowy feud between Assassins and Templars during the Golden Age of Piracy. Along the way, you'll rub cutlasses with historic legends like Blackbeard, Anne Bonny, and Calico Jack while deciding the fate of the free pirate world.

The remake overhauls almost every gameplay system from the ground up: combat now heavily revolves around snappy parries, stealth and parkour feel far slicker, ship battles hit deeper, and there is a generous stash of brand-new narrative content to explore. Just some of those changes are important enough to join Kenway on his adventure, even if you already experienced all that the original game had to offer.

While launches can sometimes be choppy waters, swift patch work from the developers turned early feedback into a triumph. Rapid post-launch support bringing vital bug fixes, slick quality-of-life tweaks, and the announcement of a much-requested New Game+ mode has driven Steam user reviews steadily upward to a reassuring "Very Positive" rating. This fact has also definitely helped the outstanding figures of a game that essentially modernizes and improves one of the franchise's most iconic titles.

If you're looking to board the ship yourself, the game is out now across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Of course, the best deals for Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced are available with our comparator.

The number is impressive, but it's also important to recognize that Black Flag started with a huge fan base. Nostalgia played a significant role in this launch. From the feedback I've read here, the majority of users had already played the original version and considered it the best Assassin's Creed game in the series.

As it turns out, one of the best installments in the franchise, some will say it's a good pirate game but a bad Assassin's Creed... I'm one of the lucky ones who saw the announcement of a remake for this title that I barely touched when it was released, can't wait to jump into it and sail the seas and challenge the scoundrels who would dare to cross my path!

This is great news for Ubisoft. I'd love to see a direct comparison with the sales figures for Assassin's Creed Shadows over the same period, to better gauge the remake's impact. Above all, I hope Ubisoft will continue to release both new Assassin's Creed games and remakes from time to time. Seeing the very first AC return with a truly modern overhaul would be fantastic, and the Ezio trilogy (AC II, Brotherhood, and Revelations) clearly deserves the same treatment. This would allow longtime fans to rediscover these classics and new players to experience them in the best possible way.

Fast post-launch patches and the confirmation of New Game Plus fixed early technical issues before momentum slowed down. Ship battles and stealth movement feel much smoother compared to the original release. Strong sales figures show clear demand for classic stealth and pirate gameplay.

Okay, I like this. I hope they dare to do the same with the Ezio trilogy.

It's good that people are supporting the older Assassin's Creed games; it shows what style of gameplay is popular.
