God Save Birmingham Beta 2 adds co-op and plenty of new features

A closer look at the new features in God Save Birmingham Beta 2
Early access

The streets of medieval Birmingham are about to get a little less lonely, but that doesn't mean surviving will be any easier. God Save Birmingham Beta 2 begins November 2, bringing players back to its zombie-infested world with a major feature that could change how they approach the apocalypse: multiplayer mode.

The second public playtest runs for one week, ending on November 9. Alongside co-op, the latest build introduces a save feature, expanded survival systems, and several changes based on feedback from previous testers. For anyone who missed the first beta test, this could be an ideal opportunity to see how the game is developing.

Surviving Birmingham with friends is finally possible

The biggest talking point in this update is undoubtedly the God Save Birmingham co-op mode. The developers are introducing multiplayer in the latest alpha build, allowing players to experience the zombie outbreak alongside their friends. This is a meaningful addition to a game built around surviving in a dangerous medieval setting. Exploring abandoned locations, collecting resources, and dealing with zombies could feel quite different when another player is there to help.

Of course, multiplayer is still in its alpha stage. The announcement doesn't detail how the mode works or how many players can join a session. Some technical issues should also be expected while the developers continue working on it. Even so, having the option to play together gives fans something new to look forward to when the beta opens.

Another major addition is a save feature, allowing players to preserve progress between sessions. This is a practical improvement for a survival game where exploration, resource gathering, and preparation can take time. Being able to return to a previous session should make it easier for players to man.age their progress

More weapons, crafting, and cooking options

Beta 2 also introduces several gameplay improvements that expand the ways players can prepare for danger. The latest build includes:

  • Additional cooking options
  • More craftable items
  • New weapons for fighting the undead
  • Different zombie aggression and behavior depending on zombie type
  • Clothing that provides varying levels of warmth based on material
  • More doors and windows that can be barricaded or latched

These changes go beyond simply adding equipment. The adjustments to zombie behavior and environmental defenses could make preparation more important when deciding where to explore or establish a safe location.

The second beta is scheduled for November 2–9, 2026. Players interested in participating can request access through the game's Steam beta page.

For now, the combination of multiplayer, improved survival mechanics, and additional crafting options makes this a worthwhile update to keep an eye on. If you've been waiting for a reason to return to Birmingham, playing alongside friends might finally be it.
