Arx Fatalis is free for Arkane's 20th anniversary

In 1999 in Lyon, the Arkane studio was created by former employees of Atari and Electronic Arts. In recent years, they have developed the notable Dishonored series, whose first installment was released in 2012, and Prey, which was released in 2017. But Arkane made itself known long before that with its very first game, the RPG from 2002 Arx Fatalis.

Originally released on PC and then on Xbox, Arx Fatalis is a first-person role-playing game in which the player gets immersed in the universe of Arx. The sun has disappeared and the people who inhabit the planet have been forced to take refuge underground in old mines. As the locals try to survive underground, an evil named after Akbaa, the god of destruction, lurks in the shadows. Of course, you will have to stop it. Arx Fatalis features non-linear gameplay where your choices matter. You can create your character and evolve it according to your playing style with skills that include weapon handling, magic, stealth, etc. The game also features a crafting system, and it is distinguished by its magic system that requires the players to draw runes with the mouse to cast spells

Arx Fatalis was well-received when it was released, and even if the graphics are a bit dated today, it remains a very good RPG. If you have never had the opportunity to play it, you can currently get it for free.

To celebrate Arkane's 20th anniversary, the studio is offering you a copy of their first game, Arx Fatalis. To play it for free, simply go to the studio's 20 years anniversary page on the Bethesda's website and subscribe to the newsletter before May 31 at 4 p.m. The game will be added to your library on the Bethesda launcher which, of course, you need to install in order to play the game.

But Arkane has obviously more things under the sleeve to celebrate the 20 years of the studio, as they have revealed in an official statement:

We can’t wait to show you what comes next, both in DEATHLOOP and in other projects to come. […] We’ll have giveaways, videos, secrets, AMAs, sales and so much more to share with you in the coming days.

As a reminder, Deathloop is Arkane's next game, a first-person action game that caused a sensation when its first trailer was revealed at the E3 last year.
