Tokyo has fallen, and reality itself is beginning to unravel. In Qliphah in Providence's Shadow, Arc System Works combines dark fantasy, stylish action and tactical RPG mechanics in a post-apocalyptic adventure where every battle revolves around reading the flow of time.

Players follow Soma Hoshigami, a young delivery worker who becomes a half-human, half-Anomaly after a mysterious attack, and Rena Hizuki, an investigator tasked with dealing with supernatural threats. Together, they investigate the strange phenomena spreading through the ruined city, including the mysterious drug known as Tiny True, disturbing Stigmas appearing on people's bodies, and a secretive cult operating behind the scenes.

Combat is built around the game's distinctive Tactical Counter-Timeline system. Rather than relying purely on traditional turn-based commands or straightforward action combat, players can observe the flow of battle, anticipate enemy attacks and deploy skills at the right moment. Counter Skills are divided into different types, allowing attacks to be chained together and powerful damage opportunities to be created through careful timing.

The adventure is presented with a vibrant cel-shaded visual style, contrasting Tokyo's supernatural nightmare with colourful character designs and grotesque Anomalies. A fully voiced story and a selection of dramatic insert songs and themes add further atmosphere to the game's bizarre world.

The game also introduces Mystic Passes, special passwords that unlock additional skills. These can be discovered through the game's in-game SNS feature or occasionally after battles, encouraging players to share their discoveries as they uncover the game's secrets.

Qliphah in Providence's Shadow offers a distinctive take on supernatural Japanese RPGs. Its ruined Tokyo setting, strange mysteries and time-focused battle system make every encounter a test of both reflexes and strategy.
