IRON NEST: Heavy Turret Simulator puts you in command of a 5,000-ton artillery monstrosity where the guns are enormous, the machinery is temperamental, and absolutely nothing about aiming a gigantic cannon is as simple as pointing and clicking. Set in an alternate-history Spain on the edge of civil war, this dieselpunk simulation turns artillery operation into a strangely satisfying combination of military strategy, mechanical management, and very loud problem-solving.
Forget twitch shooting and fancy action-hero acrobatics. In IRON NEST, you are the person behind the machinery. Listen to battlefield communications, examine intelligence reports, study aerial photographs, and use your tactical map to figure out where the enemy is hiding. Then calculate the firing solution, adjust the turret, choose the appropriate ammunition, and hope your maths is better than theirs.
The battlefield is also determined to make your job harder. Mechanical problems, limited information, sluggish turret movement, and constantly changing circumstances mean that firing a shell is only part of the challenge. Every decision has consequences, and a bad calculation can turn an impressive artillery barrage into an extremely expensive lesson in geometry.
The game features randomly generated objectives spread across 15 regions, giving you plenty of reasons to climb back into the IRON NEST. More than 30 ammunition types and abilities can be unlocked as you progress, while challenge modes, leaderboards, medals, and achievements provide additional ways to prove that you really do know which end of the giant cannon is supposed to face the enemy.
Between missions, the world of IRON NEST expands through newspaper reports and other details that flesh out its alternate-history setting. There is even a cat to customize, because apparently operating a gigantic diesel-powered death machine isn't enough responsibility without also becoming a responsible cat owner.
IRON NEST: Heavy Turret Simulator offers a refreshingly unconventional take on the war game genre. Sometimes the best way to solve a battlefield problem is to spend several minutes doing complicated calculations before pressing one button that makes an absolutely tremendous noise.
