Bye Sweet Carole is a beautifully haunting narrative-horror platformer that draws inspiration from classic hand-drawn animation and timeless fairy tales, only to twist them into something dark and unsettling. Created by Chris Darril, the visionary mind behind the Remothered series, this atmospheric adventure blends a heartfelt story with a chilling edge, inviting players into a world that feels both nostalgic and nightmarish.

Set in early 20th-century England, the game follows Lana Benton, a brave young orphan searching for her missing friend, Carole Simmons. Her investigation leads her to Bunny Hall, an ominous estate filled with dark secrets, and from there into Corolla, a parallel realm of corruption and dread. This twisted world is ruled by sinister figures, including the enigmatic Mr. Kyn, the ruthless owl Velenia, and swarms of terrifying tar-rabbits, each step deeper pulling Lana closer to a truth she might not survive.

Every frame of Bye Sweet Carole is meticulously hand-drawn, paying homage to the golden age of animation with lavish backgrounds and fluid, cinematic movement. The game’s haunting aesthetic contrasts its fairy-tale charm, creating a visual style that feels as if a beloved animated classic has been reimagined as a psychological horror film. This careful craftsmanship makes exploring Corolla’s shadowy forests, decrepit halls, and ethereal landscapes both mesmerizing and terrifying.

Gameplay combines narrative-driven exploration, classic platforming, and puzzle-solving with an inventive transformation mechanic. Lana can shift between her human and rabbit forms, allowing her to slip through tight spaces, outwit predators, and uncover hidden secrets across both worlds. This shapeshifting ability is not just a mechanic, but a vital part of the storytelling, reinforcing the surreal, unsettling tone of the game.

The characters Lana meets along her journey are as fascinating as they are disturbing. Mr. Baesie, her loyal guardian, contrasts starkly with the eerie figures of Corolla, such as the calculating Mr. Kyn and the merciless Velenia, each designed to add depth and tension to the story. Together, they create a cast that feels ripped from a gothic children's book, one where the illustrations have come to life with sinister intent.

Bye Sweet Carole is an experience designed to immerse players in a visually rich, emotionally charged narrative. Fans of gothic storytelling, handcrafted animation, and indie horror will find a world full of wonder and unease, one where every frame hides a secret and every shadow feels alive. This is more than a horror platformer; it's a love letter to traditional animation and narrative-driven games. For players looking for something daringly different, Bye Sweet Carole promises a journey that’s equal parts beautiful, tragic, and unforgettable.
