Speed is the name of the game in the first-person shooter Neon White. As the lightning-quick demon-slaying assassin White, you have been chosen from Hell to compete with other demon slayers. The prize: a one-way ticket to Heaven. However, your fellow contestants are no strangers to you—have you met them before in your previous life?

Neon White is an anime-style speedrunning game where your goal is to beat your opponent’s run time on various levels. It’s all about optimizing your runs so you can shave off enough seconds to get on top of the leaderboard.

Run and shoot your way through levels with static enemies who are more than willing to shoot back. You must clear out all foes before finishing each level. You also get cards that can function either use as a weapon or discard to play an ability instead. You can do stuff like levitate, dash, or dominate an enemy, but you must make every choice at lightning speed. And every level you clear, you gain a medal that you can use to earn more abilities to make your next runs easier.

Neon White is the speedrunner’s ultimate challenge, the test for a true speed demon. The question to ask with every run is—can you go faster?
