This new 3D Metroidvania action game tells the story of a "semi Sentient" rogue piece of code trapped in the Mainframe. The untimely fall of the Seven Suns did lead to millennia of neglect, gradually transforming the Mainframe's vast repository of code into a race of half-sentient, half-deterministic subroutines. They exist in a state of flux as if trapped by their programming in a kind of twisted digital purgatory.

The Mainframe is its own world with power grids, locked doors, and even huge enemy-spawning machines that are all powered by intricate, interconnected logic-gate circuitry. It is also populated by strange inhabitants, some who are not happy to see you and others that you can choose to help or not. You will find different weapons and abilities that change the game. When you pick up a gun, the game transforms into a third-person shooter. You can also get a glider that will let you go anywhere or unlock unlimited jumps and dashes to escape. Once you get hacking abilities, you will find that everything can be hacked. Nothing is hardcoded, so you can invert Logic gates, override or disable commands, set off puzzles or obstacles to easily bypass them, or even reprogram the citizens to follow your commands.

Recompile is a dynamic story with alternate endings depending on your decisions. It has a unique low-poly art style backed by striking visual effects and features a deeply cinematic experience set in a purely digital world that reminds of Tron.

    FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

Can I overwrite the behavior of enemies by decompiling their code and injecting my own modified code?
Yes, a core mechanic involves decompiling enemy code, understanding its functions, and then rewriting and recompiling it to change their actions.
Does modifying the core system functions have any impact on the game's overall stability?
Yes, reckless modification of essential system functions can lead to instability, system crashes, or unforeseen consequences within the game environment.
How does the game handle the complexity of nested code structures during the decompilation process?
The game provides tools and visualizations to help you navigate and understand complex, nested code structures, allowing you to trace dependencies and modify specific aspects.
Can I create new abilities or functions by combining code snippets from different sources?
Absolutely. You can often merge and adapt code from various sources to create entirely new abilities or modify existing ones beyond their original design.
Is there a limit to the size or complexity of the code I can write or inject?
While there isn't a hard limit, very large or complex code injections may impact performance or be harder to understand and debug. The game encourages efficient and focused coding.
How are changes to the code reflected in the in-game world?
Changes to the code are often reflected in real-time, allowing for immediate testing and iteration. Modified behaviors will be visible as the altered code runs within the game systems.
Does the game offer any safeguards against completely breaking the game with bad code?
Yes, while you have significant freedom, the game incorporates mechanisms to prevent complete game-breaking code. However, you must still be careful as unintended consequences can and will happen.
How does the game handle version control for the code I write?
The game incorporates a system for saving, loading, and reverting to previous versions of your code modifications, allowing experimentation without the risk of permanently losing your original code.
Can I use code modifications to bypass or circumvent puzzles or challenges?
Yes, a degree of creative problem-solving is encouraged. Code modifications can often be used to find alternative solutions to puzzles and overcome obstacles in unintended ways.
What kind of debugging tools are available to help me identify and fix errors in my code?
The game includes debugging tools such as code highlighting, variable inspection, and breakpoint support to help identify and fix errors in your code, providing a streamlined coding experience.
