Nintendo shares a new Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition trailer
One month before its release, Nintendo unveiled a new trailer for Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition, an enhanced version of a title initially launched for the Wii U in 2015. The preview showcases various aspects of the game, including character creation, the native lifeforms, and dangers of planet Mira, the player's primary mission as a BLADE, a tour of New Los Angeles—the game's central hub—and even the functionalities of the online multiplayer.
The trailer also provides a better look at the combat system in Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition and gives a closer comparison of the UI changes from the original Wii U version. Battles follow the same real-time command system seen in other entries in the series, strongly reminiscent of MMORPGs. Xenoblade Chronicles X was the first to introduce a class system, which was later seen again in Xenoblade Chronicles 3.
Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition Overview Trailer
One of the highlights of the preview is the logistics of traversing Mira via Skells—giant mechas that serve as both transport and war machines. Once players obtain a license, they can mount their Skell at any time and explore the entire game world, whether by driving or flying. This is where Xenoblade Chronicles X shines, showcasing its impressive technical prowess and the kind of miracle that only the Monolith Soft team can deliver on Nintendo's more technically limited hardware.
The trailer also gives a glimpse of the various missions players can find in New Los Angeles by interacting with countless NPCs, consequently building bonds with them. The online multiplayer, which was eventually shut down in the Wii U version, is making a comeback on the Switch. In multiplayer, players can join missions with squads of up to 31 people online, forming teams of four to complete item collection tasks or defeat enemies. Finally, the trailer offers a sneak peek at the new story scenes added to this definitive edition, giving longtime fans yet another reason to relive the game.
The plot of Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition takes place in 2054 after Earth is caught in an intergalactic war and ultimately destroyed. You, the player, are one of humanity's few surviving members tasked with establishing a new home on planet Mira. From combat to missions and Skell piloting, learn what it takes to thrive on this alien planet and succeed as a member of BLADE.
Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition launches on Nintendo Switch on March 20, 2025.
