WW2 is Call of Duty: Vanguard's problem
Everyone knows that Call of Duty: Vanguard has not been as successful as expected. The game has suffered from a wide range of problems that have caused this situation one way or another. We can think of quite a few technical issues that the latest installment of the popular FPS series had at launch, which took Sledgehammer Games a long way to solve. Also, the controversy involving the lawsuit against Activision that has had the community and the workers worried for a long while, and it's yet to be solved, probably caused a significant impact too. But it seems that Activision is deluded enough to think that it's doing a favor to itself by putting the blame somewhere else.
Nobody wanted a game set in World War 2
That's the cause of all the problems of Call of Duty: Vanguard: the setting. According to the company's annual report, the game sales are much lower than expected due to the World War 2 setting, which doesn't seem appealing enough to players nowadays.
"While Call of Duty remains one of the most successful entertainment franchises of all time, our 2021 premium release didn't meet our expectations, we believe primarily due to our own execution. The World War II setting didn't resonate with some of our community and we didn't deliver as much innovation in the premium game as we would have liked."
Whether the setting may have had an impact or not is debatable, but the other factors that have influenced the sales of Call of Duty: Vanguard are proven facts that speak for themselves. Emphasizing the "due to our own execution" part would be more accurate. At the end of the day, many new competitors have entered the arena, and Activision has met their arrival with a game that presented problems and didn't meet the community's expectations, not just because of the setting.
In any case, the development of the next Call of Duty game, Modern Warfare II, lies in the hands of Infinity Ward, and it will bring new features. We will find out if it's innovative enough in time. Meanwhile, you can get Call of Duty: Vanguard cheap on our comparator, only if you would like to play in a World War II scenario, of course.
