Valheim’s full release sounds huge, but it won’t stay this cheap

Valheim 1.0 is coming with a bigger price tag
Updates & Patches

Valheim is finally marching toward its full 1.0 release, and like any proper Viking feast, there is both good news and one slightly spicy bill at the end. Iron Gate has confirmed that Valheim 1.0 launches on September 9, 2026, bringing the long-awaited Deep North biome, new enemies, new weapons, crafting additions, base-building content, and full crossplay across platforms. In other words, the snowy endgame is finally opening its angry little frost door.

The catch? Valheim is also getting more expensive. Once 1.0 arrives, the game will be priced at $29.99, up from its current $19.99 base price on Steam; that is a 50% jump. Regional prices may differ, but the message is clear: if you have been waiting to grab Valheim, the pre-1.0 window is looking very tasty.

What Valheim 1.0 means for existing players

The official FAQ also confirms a few important things for existing players. No, you will not need to buy the game again if you already own it. Your copy will update normally, so your Viking wallet can stop screaming for a second. Old worlds and saves will still work too, although Iron Gate recommends starting a fresh world for the best 1.0 experience, since new biome content only generates properly in unexplored areas.

Achievements are coming with 1.0, but they will only start tracking after the update goes live. So yes, if you already slapped Eikthyr around 47 times, the game will politely pretend it did not see that. Cheats, spawned items, and some world modifiers can also affect achievement eligibility, so achievement hunters may want to keep things clean.

One thing not coming in 1.0 is an Ocean biome update. The focus is Deep North, not making the seas more exciting, dangerous, or full of boat-eating nonsense. Mods are also not officially supported, console mods are not happening for the launch, and there will be no Steam Workshop support either.

Still, Valheim 1.0 sounds like a massive milestone for one of survival gaming’s biggest cozy-chaotic adventures. Before the price climbs like a terrified Viking up a troll-infested hill, use our price comparison tool to find the best prices for Valheim and start your saga without overpaying.

Five years of support and a major 1.0 update make the higher price easier to accept. If you've been waiting to buy it, now is probably the best time.
