Ubisoft hits the brakes on major games
Ubisoft is changing its plans for the future. After taking a risk with the delay of Assassin's Creed Shadows, the French publisher has decided to reconsider its strategy for the upcoming releases.
The benefit of not rushing things
When Ubisoft announced it was holding back Assassin’s Creed Shadows by six months, some fans were skeptical. But behind the scenes, that delay was a turning point. More time in the oven allowed developers to refine many aspects of the game and resulted in a game that has managed to captivate the fans of the long-lived franchise. The success of Assassin's Creed Shadows has contributed to keeping the company afloat in a time when dark clouds loomed over its future. This has not gone unnoticed, and now Ubisoft intends to do the same with more games.
In a statement released in a recent investors call, Ubisoft boss Yves Guillemot has praised the results of Assassin's Creed Shadows and confirmed a delay on the future release of major titles belonging to iconic franchises from the publisher, like Assassin's Creed, Ghost Recon, Rainbow Six, or Far Cry.
"After a thorough review of its pipeline that took place from October to December, the Group decided to provide additional development time to some of its biggest productions in order to create the best conditions for success."
"This decision has already been beneficial to the quality of Assassin’s Creed Shadows. As a consequence, FY2026-27 and FY2027-28 will see significant growth vs. FY2025-26 on the back of strong content coming from the Group’s largest brands."
That means longer waits for big names, but if Assassin's Creed Shadows is any indication, the wait will be worth it. Ubisoft is taking the slower route: more dev time and fewer bugs on day one. For players burned by rushed launches in recent years, that’s welcome news. So yeah, you might be waiting longer—but if the delays keep leading to better games, it sounds like Ubisoft’s finally listening to what players have been saying for years: stop rushing and start delivering.
Assassin's Creed Shadows stands firm as proof that creating better games really pays off in the end. If you haven't discovered this unique adventure set in the mysterious lands of Japan yet, you can use our comparator to get Assassin's Creed Shadows at the best price.
