Hollow Knight: Silksong DLC officially confirmed by Team Cherry
Team Cherry isn’t finished with Hollow Knight: Silksong just yet. Despite the long road to launch and the immense scale of the final game, the developers have confirmed that new content is already in development. However, exactly when fans will get to play it remains uncertain.
Speaking with Bloomberg, co-founders Ari Gibson and William Pellen said the studio is approaching post-launch development with the same philosophy that shaped Hollow Knight: Silksong’s seven-year creation cycle—one that values experimentation, iteration, and letting ideas expand naturally. That means new content is coming, but the team isn’t committing to a timeline until they are confident in what they’re delivering.
While Team Cherry hasn’t formally announced any DLC packages, the interview revealed that the long-teased Steel Assassin Sharpe—a character fans expected to encounter in the base game—will appear in a future expansion. According to Gibson, Sharpe and their companions were set aside late in development as the team focused on polishing the final release, but they’re excited to finally bring them back.
A Mix of Small Updates and Large Expansions in the Works
Since launch, Hollow Knight: Silksong has received a steady stream of smaller patches aimed at tightening balance, improving stability, refining animations, and polishing the world of Pharloom. But the co-founders made it clear that more ambitious content is also being explored.
Gibson noted that the team is considering updates similar in scale to Hollow Knight’s major expansions—such as Godmaster and The Grimm Troupe. These larger additions could introduce new pantheons, boss refights, or substantial new areas, though the team stressed the importance of integrating them carefully so new players don’t feel overwhelmed. “Otherwise,” Gibson said, “it would just be gargantuan.”
Pellen added that the team has already begun working on new ideas beyond what was previously teased. Much of it is still evolving, but communication about future updates will increase “soon” once more details are finalized.
For now, Team Cherry remains focused on delivering meaningful additions without compromising what made Hollow Knight: Silksong’s launch so successful.
