System Shock 2 Enhanced Edition will support VR

System Shock 2 Enhanced Edition will support VR

Even though System Shock 2 Enhanced Edition was announced a while ago, developer Nightdive Studios has been quite secretive about the development of the game. The original System Shock and System Shock 2 are a couple of cult classic role-playing games that are usually found among in any list of the best in the genre. When the remaster of the first installment in the series was launched in 2015, plenty of players delved again into the futuristic universe of the game, but this time with enhanced graphics. System Shock 2 Enhanced Edition was announced on a later date, and it was expected that it would follow the same pattern as its predecessor, but it seems that Nightdive Studios is becoming quite more ambitious with this new version of the classic RPG.

Nightdive Studios has published on Twitter a video that shows one of the developers playing the game with a Valve Index controller. Everything indicates that System Shock 2 Enhanced Editon will feature VR support.

No additional details have been revealed about System Shock 2 Enhanced Edition, and we are still waiting for the announcement of a release date. The addition of VR support could explain why the development is taking so long but in the end, the result may pay off if we are getting a remake of the classic with more features than expected and those are interesting. A revision of the graphics in the game would have been more than enough for many of the fans, but modernizing System Shock 2 Enhanced Edition in other ways could be the icing on the cake for them.

Another point of interest for the fans would be the release of the sequel to System Shock 2, a third installment in the series that was under development by OtherSide Entertainment. Unfortunately, there's been no news about the game since Tencent took over the project in summer 2020.

To sum it up in one sentence: There are a lot of System Shock projects in the works but we still don't know what to expect.
