Is Stray better placed than Elden Ring for the Game of the Year award?
Like every year, gamers are trying to guess which game could be chosen as the GOTY, meaning "game of the year". 2022 is no exception to the rule, and at the end of the year, the ceremonies will award category prizes to the best titles released during this period.
For most gamers, the game of the year is Elden Ring. It is indeed very difficult to compete with a game like this. Since its release in February 2022, it's been a total success, and its Steam ratings are outstanding, with a ratio of 461,000 positive votes to 51,000 negative votes. Quite surprisingly, the only thing that could dethrone Hidetaka Miyazaki's work seems to be a cat. Stray has just been released, but it's well on its way to doing better than Elden Ring. We already have 47,000 positive reviews against only 1,000 negative reviews. Roughly speaking, Stray is currently the highest-rated game on the platform in 2022.
Do players prefer chill games to difficult and frustrating games?
This is a legitimate question, as the best game of the year is likely to be picked between these two very different titles. It is complicated to compare games objectively, especially when they don't belong to the same genre, but we can still find an explanation for Stray's greater success. The game is for the general public, is not long, and it features a cat, a very popular animal, in a realistic universe, although it has a futuristic look. Elden Ring, on the other hand, is not aimed at the same audience, and there's been a lot of discussions about the frustration that it produces on some players due to its incredibly high difficulty. In an age where video games are mostly seen as a pastime to escape your daily routine and forget your problems for a while, Stray meets these needs better than Elden Ring. However, this is subjective and depends on each player's profile. After all, Elden Ring is considered a very good game, and it has been rated higher than Stray by the press.
Only time will tell which game will be crowned as the Game of the Year 2022. Until that happens, you can enjoy Stray and Elden Ring to your heart's content by buying them at the lowest price via our comparator.
