Stardew Valley Creator’s New Game is About Making Haunted Chocolate
Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone, creator of the highly acclaimed Stardew Valley, has announced his latest game: Haunted Chocolatier, a cozy RPG about making and selling chocolate while living in a haunted castle.
In his own words, ConcernedApe describes his game as such:
“Like Stardew Valley, Haunted Chocolatier is another “town game”, where you move to a new town and try your hand at a new way of living. You’ll get to know the townspeople, achieve your goals and make progress in many ways. All of that is similar to Stardew Valley. However, the core gameplay and theming are quite a bit different. Haunted Chocolatier is more of an action-RPG compared to Stardew Valley. And instead of a farm being the focal point of your endeavors, it’s a chocolate shop.”
When Stardew Valley first hit the shelves, it drew people in with its small-town charm and its laid-back, cozy appeal. From the initial footage, it seems that Haunted Chocolatier shares the look and feel of Stardew, but will have a more action-oriented gameplay compared to its predecessor. Instead of tending to a farm, you go out into the wilderness, slay some monsters, and gather ingredients for your confections.
Apart from that, there’s the spooky element of having to contend with ghosts in your castle. ConcernedApe explains that while the game will feature the supernatural, it won’t be “an evil or negative game,” stating that Haunted Chocolatier will be “positive, uplifting and life-affirming.” Why you have to live in the castle at all, and what ghosts have to do with making chocolate, will hopefully be explained.

With ConcernedApe still working on the game, there’s no committed release date as of yet for Haunted Chocolatier, nor what platforms it will run on. Regardless, it’s on the horizon, and we keenly await what Stardew’s successor will bring us.
