Star Wars Outlaws release date window revealed

Some say we're in the era of leaks. After leaking the Grand Theft Auto VI trailer, numerous early physical copies of games like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and the criminal act on Insomniac, some still leave us scratching our heads about the leak's intention.

Star Wars Outlaws, which had been without official news for a few months, has just received new information that has set the internet on fire. Bizarrely, it came from a Disney Parks blog. Commenting on 24 experiences for 2024, number 22 delivered important and perhaps unprecedented information for the gaming industry. "And for Star Wars fans – Star Wars Outlaws, the open-world Star Wars game is set to release in 2024," reads the blog.

Perhaps Ubisoft hadn't considered announcing the release window for Star Wars Outlaws this way, especially since Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora has already been released, but it is what it is.

Stars Wars Outlaws tells the story of Kay Vess and her companion Nix as they attempt the biggest heist seen in the Outer Rim. The story occurs between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. It is a single-player action-adventure game with a third-person perspective. The game will feature stealth mechanics, vehicular and space combat, and a narrative that changes according to the player's choices.

But the game wasn't forgotten. Despite Massive Entertainment not releasing any new official trailer lately, they recently did an interview with Kotaku. On the occasion, narrative director Navid Khavari talked about the gameplay loop:

“The first of these is dense cities bustling with activity and lively cantinas where you might find criminal syndicates and corrupt Imperials mingling together. Second is our vast, mysterious, and stunning open environments…whether on foot or Kay’s speeder. And finally, space, which players can explore on Kay’s ship. One of the core parts of the scoundrel fantasy is having your own ship and that essentially being your home,” said Khavari. “Outlaws are travelling constantly and need to be on the move all the time—that’s no different for Kay. You’ll be able to go from on foot, to speeder, to your ship and easily jump between planets.”

The only question is whether planet exploration will be engaging or something menu-based like it was in Starfield. For that, players must wait until the end of 2024 to play Star Wars Outlaws, which will be released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows.
