Star Fox Remake: Relive the Legendary Space Adventure
Do you still remember the legendary game Star Fox 64 back in 1997? It was the childhood of so many people who grew up during the golden era of arcade games! What if I told you that Velan Studios and Nintendo have released a comprehensive remake of this game, and it came out recently? Let’s explore the remake version of this legendary title together.
Protect the Lylat Star System from Destruction with the Star Fox Mercenary Team!
This is a comprehensive remake of the legendary 1997 version, Star Fox 64, developed by Velan Studios and published by Nintendo. The game retains the classic linear storyline combined with aerial combat adventure, but it has been completely rebuilt on a modern graphics engine to take full advantage of the new hardware's power.
The game is a third-person rail shooter (similar to Panzer Dragoon or Whisker Squadron). Players step into the shoes of Fox McCloud, the leader of the Star Fox mercenary squadron, along with his teammates Falco, Peppy, and Slippy, to carry out the mission of protecting the Lylat star system from destruction by the mad scientist Andross.
The first quite obvious improvement we can see is that the remake version features great upgrades in both graphics and storyline!
The graphics have been heavily upgraded with realistic character models inspired by the original puppets used to promote the very first Star Fox game on the SNES system. Not only that, but the cinematic cutscenes between levels have also been expanded, diving deeper into the characters' psychology and squadron relationships instead of just having short voice lines like the old version.
The game supports an aiming mechanism that utilizes the Joy-Con 2 controllers in "mouse mode," offering highly precise aiming when taking down enemies. Additionally, the game allows players to switch to a first-person perspective from inside the cockpit to enhance the immersive experience, while also supporting the Nintendo 64 wireless controller.
The most valuable aspect of this remake is that the publisher still keeps the core plot of the original. However, the stages will have different outcomes, leading players to different planets and resulting in various endings. This forces players to replay the game multiple times if they want to discover all possible conclusions and find the true ending.
The game includes 2 modes: a 2-player co-op mode and a battle mode, along with an all-new Game Chat feature. This allows players to video call directly while playing online, complete with AR filters that transform real-life faces into in-game characters like Fox or Wolf.
In short, this comprehensive remake has not disappointed long-time fans, as the publisher has dressed the game in a completely new coat while still preserving the signature essence of Star Fox from the 90s! If you are a fan of this title or simply looking for a rail shooter game, this will not be a bad choice at all!
