Sony reveals two PS5 headsets built for better audio and communication

Sony is expanding its PlayStation audio lineup with two new wireless headsets designed to deliver improved sound quality, connectivity, and voice communication on PS5 and other compatible devices. The new PlayStation Pulse Wireless Headset and Pulse Edge Wireless Headset both use custom planar magnetic drivers inspired by studio audio equipment. Sony says the technology is intended to improve sound separation and spatial accuracy, giving players greater clarity when distinguishing different elements in a game.

Both models also support PlayStation Link, Sony's wireless audio technology for lossless, ultra-low-latency sound. The system allows users to switch between compatible devices such as PS5 consoles, PlayStation Portal remote players, PCs, and Macs. Bluetooth devices can also remain connected at the same time.

Voice chat is another area Sony has addressed with the new headsets. Their integrated microphones feature AI-enhanced noise rejection, which is designed to reduce surrounding background sounds and make in-game communication clearer. Sony has also redesigned the physical construction of both models. The earcups can now rotate so the headsets can be laid flat, making them easier to carry while also contributing to a more comfortable and durable design.

The standard PlayStation Pulse Wireless Headset is designed as the simpler option of the two. It combines the custom planar magnetic drivers with PlayStation Link, simultaneous Bluetooth connectivity, and AI-enhanced microphone noise rejection. It will be available in two finishes, White and Midnight Black.

Meanwhile, the more premium Pulse Edge takes the same core technology further with several features aimed at players who want more control over their audio experience. Most notably, its planar magnetic drivers use twice the magnet volume of those found in the standard Pulse Wireless Headset.

The premium model also adds active noise cancellation, a detachable boom microphone, and built-in Game Audio and Chat Balance controls for PS5. Sony says it uses premium materials and will include a carrying case, while the color options will again be White and Midnight Black.

Sony plans to begin launching the Pulse Wireless Headset in select markets during the 2026 holiday season, while the Pulse Edge Wireless Headset is scheduled to arrive starting in early 2027. Pricing, specific release dates, and preorder information have not yet been announced for either headset.
