RTX PRO 5500 Blackwell is Nvidia’s latest workstation GPU with 84GB VRAM

Nvidia has introduced another massive Blackwell GPU, although this one isn't aimed at gamers looking to squeeze a few more frames out of their games. The new RTX Pro 5500 Blackwell Workstation Edition is designed for professional workloads, offering an enormous 84GB of GDDR7 ECC memory and a power envelope that can reach 600W.

The RTX Pro 5500 sits between the RTX Pro 5000 and flagship RTX Pro 6000 in Nvidia's professional lineup. However, its 84GB memory capacity puts it much closer to the 96GB RTX Pro 6000 than the 72GB RTX Pro 5000, while its maximum power consumption is another indication of the performance Nvidia is targeting.

The card is primarily intended for organizations that want to centralize GPU resources instead of equipping every employee with a powerful workstation. It can be used for AI model development, robotics simulations, professional rendering, engineering, scientific workloads, and other applications capable of consuming huge amounts of GPU memory.

That 84GB VRAM pool is particularly useful for AI. Larger language models, longer context windows, multiple models running simultaneously, computer vision systems, AI agents, and multimodal workloads can all benefit from having more data available directly on the GPU. The same capacity can also help professional users work with enormous 3D scenes and scientific datasets without constantly moving information between system memory and the graphics card.

At its core, the RTX Pro 5500 uses Nvidia's Blackwell architecture with 21,760 CUDA cores, matching the consumer GeForce RTX 5090's CUDA core count. It also features fifth-generation Tensor Cores and fourth-generation RT Cores. Memory bandwidth reaches 1,398GB/s, while the GPU can consume up to 600W under maximum load.

Connectivity includes PCIe 5.0 x16 and up to four DisplayPort 2.1b outputs. Nvidia will offer both air-cooled and liquid-cooled versions, further highlighting the card's intended environment. This is hardware built for managed professional systems and server racks, not necessarily something you'd want sitting inside a conventional desktop PC.

Another interesting feature is Multi-Instance GPU (MIG). Rather than dedicating all 84GB and its compute resources to one workload, the RTX Pro 5500 can be split into two isolated 42GB GPU instances. Each instance receives dedicated memory, cache, and compute resources, allowing two users or workloads to share the accelerator while maintaining more predictable performance.

Nvidia hasn't revealed pricing yet, and the RTX Pro 5500 is currently listed as “coming soon.” Given its enterprise focus, 84GB of ECC GDDR7, 600W power requirement, and rack-oriented configurations, this is definitely not a GeForce card with a conventional pricing. 84 Go de VRAM et 600 W c’est completement abus c’est clairement pas fait pour jouer mais pour de l’IA et des gros calculs ça doit etre une vrai bête.

De technologie klinkt indrukwekkend, maar de prijs zal uiteindelijk bepalen hoe aantrekkelijk deze kaart wordt. Voor veel gebruikers kan een consumenten-GPU mogelijk een betere verhouding tussen prestaties en kosten bieden.
