Step Back Into Horror with The House of the Dead 2: Remake
The House of the Dead 2: Remake brings back one of arcade gaming’s most iconic rail shooters with a fresh coat of paint and modern enhancements. Developed by MegaPixel Studio and published by Forever Entertainment, this remake aims to recapture the fast-paced, over-the-top action that made the original 1998 release a cult classic.
Set two years after the events of the Curien Mansion, players once again take on the roles of AMS agents James Taylor and Gary Stewart as they investigate a terrifying outbreak in Venice, Italy. The remake preserves the core structure of the original—complete with frantic shooting sequences, branching paths, and multiple endings—while upgrading visuals and audio for modern platforms.
Launching on August 7, 2025, for Nintendo Switch and PC (via Steam and GOG), the remake features updated HD graphics, remastered sound, a new voice cast, and several gameplay modes, including Campaign, Boss Rush, and Training Mode. Co-op play remains intact, making it a great pick for fans of couch multiplayer. Players can also toggle between the original and modern soundtracks, adding to the nostalgic value.
However, despite the excitement surrounding its release, early previews and community feedback have been mixed. Some fans have voiced concerns over the lack of light gun support on PC, clunky aiming mechanics, downgraded animations, and visual design choices that stray from the grittier tone of the original.
Even so, for long-time fans and newcomers alike, The House of the Dead 2: Remake offers a chance to relive—or discover—an arcade-era gem. While the final verdict will hinge on post-launch updates and community response, the remake stands as both a tribute to and a reinterpretation of a beloved shooter legacy.
Console versions for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S are expected to follow at a later date. Currently, you can check our comparison website for the cheapest deal on The House of the Dead 2: Remake.
