Outward 2 Impresses Players With Surprisingly Modest PC Requirements
As PC gamers continue to deal with increasingly demanding hardware requirements for new releases, Outward 2 is attracting attention for doing the exact opposite. A recently published “Potato PC” showcase video from developer Nine Dots Studio revealed that the upcoming open-world RPG is designed to run on far less powerful hardware than many players expected.
Requirements so low that a toaster could run the game
The video, presented with a humorous tone, highlights the game running on older PC components while still maintaining stable performance. Although the presentation leans heavily into jokes about low-end systems, the underlying message is clear: Outward 2 aims to remain accessible to players who have not upgraded to modern high-end gaming rigs.
According to the official specifications shown in the video, the game's minimum requirements include a GTX 960 graphics card, a Ryzen 3 1300X processor, and 8GB of RAM. In an era where many major RPGs now recommend hardware far beyond that level, the announcement immediately stood out among PC players.
The recommended setup is also relatively moderate by current standards, requiring an RTX 3060, Ryzen 5 5600X, and 16GB of memory. While players targeting ultra settings or 4K resolutions will still need stronger components, the overall optimization appears significantly more forgiving than many recent open-world titles.
The reveal has generated positive reactions online, particularly among fans tired of poorly optimized PC launches. Over the past few years, numerous AAA releases have faced criticism for performance issues and steep hardware demands, making Outward 2’s approach feel increasingly uncommon in the modern market.
Beyond the technical discussion, the sequel itself is shaping up to be a major evolution of the original Outward. The game will offer a larger and more reactive world, expanded survival systems, improved combat mechanics, and deeper RPG progression. It will continue to focus on grounded adventuring rather than traditional "chosen hero" storytelling, which remains one of the series' defining characteristics.
Release date
Nine Dots Studio has officially confirmed that Outward 2 will enter Steam Early Access on July 7, 2026. For a complex survival RPG built around experimentation and long-term progression systems, the Early Access model may ultimately benefit both the developers and the community. At the same time, the unexpectedly low system requirements have already helped the game stand out in a crowded RPG landscape.
While many studios continue pushing hardware demands higher with every new release, Outward 2 is positioning itself as a technically approachable RPG that still aims to deliver a large-scale fantasy experience, even for players using what the developers jokingly describe as a "potato PC."
