Original cast returns for Metal Gear Solid Delta—but no Kojima

The more things change, the more things stay the same, or at least it is for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, Konami’s first foray into remaking the acclaimed Metal Gear Solid 3.

According to Tommy Williams, Konami’s Head of Communications for the Americas, MGS Delta will be reusing the old voiced dialogue from MGS 3, with no changes whatsoever.

War never changes

The returning voices, so to speak, will include David Hayter as Naked Snake, Lori Alan as The Boss, Josh Keaton as Ocelot, and more.

That none of the voice lines will remain unchanged is pretty ironic, considering that Konami titled the game Delta (Δ), which they explained means “‘change’ or ‘difference’ without changing structure.” Hopefully, some improvements to the game will come through and it won’t be a simple retread with high-end graphics. After all, we are already getting the original version of MGS 3 playable on the PC with the upcoming Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol.1. 

Missing in action

In addition, Konami also clarified that the original director, Hideo Kojima, will remain uninvolved with MGS Delta and any Metal Gear games they will be remaking from here on. This goes back to the notorious fallout between Konami and Kojima, which resulted in the former scrubbing the latter’s name from their history, and Kojima later forming his own game company, which produced Death Stranding. It seems pointless for Konami to make entirely new Metal Gear games without Kojima on board, so remakes are the way to go. They have signaled that fan response to MGS Delta will determine if they will make more remakes for the franchise moving forward.

While there is still no firm launch date for MGS Delta, we do know that the MGS Master Collection Vol. 1 is coming this fall and will have the first three Metal Gear Solid games as well as the classic Metal Gear 1 and 2.
