‘Next-gen’ MMO Chrono Odyssey wows with stunning visuals
South Korean developer NPIXEL has just released some news on what they are calling their ‘next-gen’ MMORPG—Chrono Odyssey is a time-bending adventure that’s coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox, and PC. First announced in 2020, Chrono Odyssey hasn’t been given a launch date, but NPIXEL did release this trailer to make their case:
In a press release, Chrono Odyssey director Ken Kang states, “We firmly believe MMORPGs serve as gateways to unforgettable experiences and cherished memories, formed through shared adventures and challenges.”
And what a gateway it is—visually at least. The world boasts an incredible amount of detail and a high fantasy sheen that reminds one strongly of Elden Ring. Chrono Odyssey will also feature dynamic weather and an environment that changes with the seasons to create a living, breathing world. Accompanying the visuals is a brilliant soundtrack by Resident Evil composer Cris Velasco. It certainly leaves existing MMOs out there looking a bit dated.
An unreal world
The game takes place in the fantasy land of Setera, a world threatened by the Void. As one of the heroes attempting to stop this apocalypse, you have been gifted with the power to manipulate space and time. You may use this power to travel to various timelines and deal with the various monsters you are bound to encounter. You will also have the power to uncover various secrets in Setera’s history that may hold the key to its salvation.
Several factions vie for control of Setera. First are the Guardians, god-like who preside over the world and who seek to eliminate all that threatens it. Next is the Void, an unfathomable nothingness that seeks to turn everything else like itself. Then there are the World Movers, refugees from various worlds destroyed by the Void and who are now fighting for survival. The Outcasts are rebellious World Movers who have been thrown out of the factions for their crimes and immoral behavior. Finally, the Broken Ones are undead World Movers that have succumbed to the Void and attack anyone in sight.
Overall, Chrono Odyssey is an impressive-looking MMO and we can’t wait to see how it plays. We may have a while yet till it launches, but you can keep an eye on our price listings for a Chrono Odyssey PS5 key.
