How to Activate a CD Key on Ubisoft Connect

If you have obtained a CD key for an Ubisoft game, you will certainly want to know how to activate your digital key on Ubisoft Connect.

Ubisoft Connect is Ubisoft's digital distribution and digital rights management (DRM) platform. It allows you to buy and download games such as Assassin's Creed, The Division, Watch Dogs, Rainbow Six, and more. An activation key is an alphanumeric code—meaning made up of numbers and letters—that you can find in the game box or in the confirmation email sent by the retailer you bought it from.

Here is how to activate a digital key using Ubisoft Connect:

1. If you haven't done so already, download the Ubisoft Connect client from their homepage. Install it, launch it, and log in to the Ubisoft account you wish to link the game to. If you don't have one, you can create one for free. 

2. Click on your profile picture / avatar in the top left corner of the window, then select "Key activation".

3. Enter your alphanumeric code (in the format AAAA-BBBB-CCCC-DDDD or AAA-BBBB-CCCC-DDDD-EEEE) into the Activation Code field, including the dashes, then click on Activate.

4. Confirm the linking of the game to your account. Then go to the Library tab, click on the game tile, and click Download to start the installation.

Now that you know how to activate a game on Ubisoft Connect, please note the following:

Any game you activate and add to your library is yours permanently. You may use the client to reinstall your games whenever you want, on whatever computer you want. This is useful should your computer break down or you want to change machines. 

Ubisoft Connect is useful for other things too. It allows you to connect to other players on the Ubisoft network. It saves your progress on your games for you. When you complete challenges in your games, you collect Ubisoft Connect XP, in-game currency, and unique rewards. Of course, it lets you keep and maintain an inventory of your purchased games. 

Do keep your CD key in case you need to prove your purchase. If you lost your key, don’t worry, it’s saved in your Library.

1. Select the "Library" tab.
2. Select the game you want.
3. Click the "gear" icon, then choose "Properties".
4. In the "General" tab, click the eye icon to show the key; it will display the key used to activate the game.
