Two Unique Games Now Free on Epic Games Store
The Epic Games Store has just updated its weekly giveaway promotion, offering two new games for players to claim this week. Following last week’s free offering of Sable, Backpack Hero and Figment are now available for all PC gamers to acquire. As usual, you have a week to permanently add these latest indie titles to your Epic Games Store library.
First up, Backpack Hero, developed by indie creator Jaspel, delivers a distinct roguelike experience centered around inventory management. Similar to other roguelikes, you collect items to enhance the potential of your run, but here, the arrangement of items within the backpack is crucial. Each session features randomly generated dungeons, enemies, and loot to collect.
Backpack Hero holds a score of 76 on Metacritic. However, user ratings are slightly higher; for instance, on Steam, it has received an 86% approval rating from nearly 7,000 reviews. Players who choose to experience it for free on the Epic Games Store can expect to invest at least 10 hours to finish the game, but with additional content, it's possible to spend around 50 to 60 hours on the PC title.
Next, we have Figment, released by Bedtime Digital Games. This action-adventure game, viewed from an isometric angle, takes place within a surreal setting rendered in hand-drawn art, all unfolding within a mind. You assume the role of Dusty, who was once the voice of courage in that mind. The musical journey involves helping Dusty regain his former self while battling nightmares and restoring the mind’s original purpose.
Figment has a Metacritic score of 77. On Steam, it boasts an 87% approval rating based on over 1,000 user reviews. Those who decide to give it a shot now that it's free on the Epic Games Store can anticipate a gameplay length of approximately 5 to 6 hours. Unlike Backpack Hero, it also has a sequel, Figment 2: Creed Valley, which was released in the same year as Backpack Hero, 2023.
The giveaways for Figment and Backpack Hero are now live on the Epic Games Store and will continue until July 10. Typically, both games retail for $19.99, but players can add them to their library at no cost during this seven-day window. And as always, make sure to use our comparison tool to find the best prices for your favorite upcoming games.
