Darksiders 4 Confirms Co-Op Mode: Online and Split-Screen
The long-awaited Darksiders 4 was announced recently and it will make a leap into multiplayer territory, with new details revealing support for cooperative play. For the first time in the franchise's history, up to four players will be able to team up online, while local split-screen will allow two players to share the action side-by-side. This major addition could mark a turning point for the series, traditionally known for its single-player, hack-and-slash adventures.
The Four Horsemen at their best
This new installment will bring all four Horsemen of the Apocalypse—War, Death, Fury, and Strife—together in one unified experience. While past games featured these characters in individual stories, Darksiders 4 finally lets players embody them simultaneously in a shared narrative. The game promises flexibility and choice in how players approach the apocalypse, whether you prefer to play solo or alongside friends. The inclusion of online co-op for up to four players and split-screen support for two has been confirmed through recent product listings and retailer descriptions. It's also been made clear that the full campaign will still be accessible in single-player mode, maintaining the option for players who prefer to experience the story on their own. This shift in direction has sparked plenty of discussion among fans. The idea of all four Horsemen battling together has been a long-standing wish within the Darksiders community. Some fans are thrilled at the prospect of coordinated, team-based gameplay, while others express concern about how the game will preserve the franchise’s identity. Past entries were defined by their tight, character-focused design; something that may be harder to achieve in a co-op setting.
Of particular interest is how local co-op will be implemented. Split-screen modes are increasingly rare in modern games, and their inclusion in Darksiders 4 suggests a commitment to making the experience accessible. However, whether the camera design, UI, and level design will effectively accommodate multiple players on a single screen remains to be seen. While exact gameplay mechanics are still under wraps, many are drawing comparisons to Remnant: From the Ashes and Remnant 2, also developed by Gunfire Games. Those titles offered strong co-op gameplay without compromising the solo experience, which is an encouraging sign for Darksiders 4’s potential balance between multiplayer and single-player design.
With no official release date yet announced, it's unclear how far along the game is in development. But the introduction of robust co-op features hints at a game designed from the ground up to support multiple play styles. For fans, this would bring the chance to face off against the forces of Heaven and Hell not just alone, but as a true team of Horsemen, online or on the same couch.
As more details emerge, Darksiders 4 is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious entries in the series yet. As usual, our comparator is the best tool to pre-order Darksiders 4 at the best price if you don't want to miss this epic adventure.
