4v1 multiplayer game Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed announced

The Ghostbusters franchise got a shot at a second life, first cinematically with Ghostbusters: Afterlife and now as a new video game—Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed. Unlike the previous Ghostbusters: The Video Game, Spirits Unleashed is a 4v1 multiplayer game where you can play either as a Ghostbuster or as a ghost. The game is slated for release towards the end of 2022. Have a look at the trailer here:

Something strange in the neighborhood

In case you missed it, Spirits Unleashed also features the voices of the film cast: Ernie Hudson as Winston Zeddmore and Dan Akroyd as Ray Stantz. The set-up is that the original Ghostbusters are passing the baton to a new generation. Winston is in charge of training and managing the new team, and Ray fills in as the ghost expert, dishing out advice on spiritual manifestations in his own geeky way.

Spirits Unleashed also brings back the unforgettable Ghostbusters gear—Proton Packs, Ghost Traps, and the PKE meter. Your job will have you entering public locations—museums, prisons, hotels, and more—to hunt down ghosts, hold them down with the proton beams, and contain them using the Trap. You will also have access to the iconic firehouse as your headquarters. Here you can upgrade your gear, train your shooting skills, and customize your character.

Of course, you can also play as the Ghost, which has its own array of tricks. They can fly, pass through walls, teleport, possess objects, and even summon more ghosts. They can also attack Ghostbusters by passing through them and sliming them.

Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed is scheduled to come out later this year for PC, PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series.
