What happens when you are forced to leave the only home you've ever known, and are expected to either make a new life for yourself, or die? This is the question that Banished asks you, and it's to you to decide the fate of not only yourself, but of the group of people that are looking to you for guidance and help. In the game, you play as a leader of an exiled group of people who have nothing but the clothes on their backs and a simple cart of supplies. Using just this, you'll need to rebuild everything, and do so in a land you do not know. But fear not, for you are not alone in building things, in fact, the whole group of people you're leading are in fact your greatest resource. For through your combined efforts, you can rebuild, and you must guide them to make that happen. Like real people, your group can work, grow, learn, get hurt, get sick, get well, make families, and more. Use them to get the most essential things done, so slowly work your way up so that you can have a thriving community where everyone is happy, and healthy, and fed. There isn't a simple skill tree here, nor is there a need to have one. You can build whatever you want whenever you want, that's the beauty of Banished. If you feel there is a need for something, get the people together and make it. Have the people learn jobs to make the town grow even more advanced, and become better. How you build your new home will define how the people survive, if they do at all.

    FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

How does the 'Trading Post' mechanic influence the long-term sustainability of a Banished settlement, considering its impact on resource diversification and population happiness?
The Trading Post facilitates the exchange of surplus goods for essential resources not locally available, like iron or tools. It directly impacts sustainability by preventing resource depletion and boosts happiness by providing access to varied foods and goods, preventing monotony.
In what ways does the 'Education' system, involving schools and teachers, contribute to the efficiency of labor and the acquisition of specialized skills within a Banished community?
Education improves worker efficiency across all professions. Literate adults can later work in more advanced jobs, and also train others, which helps the town get new skills. It directly affects resource gathering, production, and the general technological advancement of the settlement.
Explain the precise consequences of 'disease outbreaks' within a Banished settlement, including how they spread and the efficacy of various preventative measures, such as herbalists and cemeteries.
Disease spreads rapidly through homes and workplaces, causing death and reduced productivity. Prevention involves clean water sources, adequate food supply, and access to medical care from herbalists. Cemeteries, while important, are less effective at preventing outbreaks compared to other hygiene measures.
How does the 'Disaster' mechanic, encompassing events like blizzards and tornadoes, force players to adapt their settlement layouts and resource management strategies in Banished?
Disasters destroy structures and deplete resources, requiring rapid rebuilding and resource reallocation. They highlight the importance of resilient building materials, sufficient food storage, and contingency plans for shelter and warmth during extreme weather.
Describe the detailed function of the 'Child' population in Banished and how their role evolves over time, focusing on their impact on the workforce and resource consumption.
Children consume resources but do not contribute to the workforce. They become adults after a set amount of time, becoming a workforce. The birth rate, influenced by housing and food availability, impacts the future workforce size, and the population's long-term growth.
How does the 'Food Production' system, covering farming, fishing, and hunting, interact with the 'Storage' mechanics and the threat of starvation in Banished?
Food production must exceed consumption. Proper storage (barns, storage pits, and root cellars) prevents spoilage. Failure to store sufficient food leads to starvation, reducing the population and hindering further production.
What are the specific benefits and drawbacks of different 'Fuel' sources, such as firewood and coal, on the efficiency and sustainability of a Banished settlement's heating and industrial processes?
Firewood is renewable but requires labor to gather. Coal is more efficient, but its supply is finite. The choice of fuel impacts building efficiency, heating, and industrial production speed, affecting overall resource management.
In what ways does the 'Happiness' stat, influenced by factors like food variety and housing quality, influence the productivity and demographic trends within a Banished community?
Happiness affects birth rates, emigration, and worker productivity. High happiness increases birth rates and emigration. Low happiness reduces both birth rates, and productivity, which directly influences a town's sustainability.
Explain the detailed relationship between 'Building Placement' and the efficiency of various services and resource gathering operations in Banished, including optimal building proximities.
Building placement directly impacts efficiency. Placing homes near workplaces reduces travel time for workers. Locating the trading post and storage near the docks and food production facilities also enhances the settlement's operations. Proper planning is crucial.
How does the 'Aging' mechanic affect the Banished population's workforce, resource consumption, and overall stability of the settlement over several generations?
The aging population will eventually become too old to work, placing additional strain on the productive workers. It will also reduce the amount of new workers. A balance between birth rates and death rates, and also worker availability, is important for sustainability.
