Xbox Series X25 gets price and release date with free Halo remake copy

Xbox Series X25 arrives in November with free copy of Halo Campaign Evolved

Microsoft has finally put a price and pre-order date on the Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition, its special console celebrating 25 years of Xbox. First unveiled earlier this year with a translucent green design inspired by the original Xbox, the limited-edition machine is now set to launch in November.

The Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition will cost $899.99 / €899.99 / £759.99, with pre-orders opening on August 27 at 7 AM PT through the Xbox Store and participating retailers. Some longtime Xbox fans will get an early opportunity, however, as Microsoft says selected customers are receiving pre-order invitations by email ahead of the general launch.

The timing is particularly fitting. The X25 is scheduled to arrive just two days after the original Xbox's November 15 anniversary date, making the console a fairly literal celebration of a quarter-century of Microsoft's gaming hardware. Microsoft is also taking steps to keep the limited edition out of the hands of scalpers. Pre-orders will be restricted to one console per customer, while the company is giving some of its most dedicated fans first access.

There are plenty of small details for collectors to discover, too. Microsoft says the hardware contains various hidden Easter eggs, including a unique engraving showing the production number of each individual console. The company is positioning this as a collectible piece of Xbox history rather than simply another color variant.

The console comes bundled with the Xbox X25 Special Edition Wireless Controller, which uses the same translucent green styling. If you'd rather pick up the controller separately, that's also an option. The standalone gamepad is already available for pre-order and will launch on October 20, several weeks before the console itself.

Despite all the anniversary-themed extras, don't expect additional performance. The X25 uses the same hardware and delivers the same performance as a regular Xbox Series X, while providing 1TB of SSD storage. Microsoft has added one more incentive to the package, though: every X25 console will include a free copy of Halo: Campaign Evolved, the recently released remake of the original Halo that introduced players to Master Chief.

With its translucent OG Green shell, individually numbered hardware, matching controller, and bundled Halo remake, the Xbox Series X25 is clearly aimed at collectors and longtime Xbox fans. If you're hoping to grab one, though, you'll want to be ready when pre-orders open tomorrow.
