Terraria 1.4.5.7 Brings the Largest Hotfix to Date
After more than a decade of continuous development and surpassing 70 million copies sold worldwide, Terraria continues to stand as one of the gaming industry's longest-running and most enduring sandbox titles. In its latest State of the Game update, Re-Logic unveiled a massive new hotfix while also offering a clearer look at the game's long-term future.
Hotfix 1.4.5.7 marks a major turning point for Terraria's future
Re-Logic has described version 1.4.5.7 as the "largest hotfix type update in Terraria's history," making it far more significant than a routine patch.
Rather than continuing to release smaller fixes over time, the studio is using this update to eliminate the remaining issues left behind after the Bigger and Boulder update. The objective is to provide a cleaner and more stable experience while closing out this stage of post-update support before shifting the team's focus to Terraria's next chapter.
The developer also noted that this is expected to be the final—or very close to the final—hotfix for the current development cycle, marking an important transition in the game's ongoing evolution.
Alongside extensive bug fixes, update 1.4.5.7 will also introduce a broad gameplay rebalance across multiple weapon classes, with several notable changes:
- A comprehensive balance pass designed to ensure every weapon class remains fun, relevant, and rewarding to use.
- A significant overhaul of the Yo-yo weapon class instead of simply adjusting damage numbers or other stats.
- Gameplay-focused mechanical improvements intended to make individual Yo-yos feel more unique and distinctive.
According to Ted "Loki" Murphy, the team has been listening to community feedback for quite some time and ultimately decided to implement more meaningful gameplay improvements rather than relying on minor numerical adjustments.
Development of Crossplay is progressing alongside the hotfix. Re-Logic is working to shorten the rollout timeline as much as possible, with the goal of having the feature ready when update 1.4.5.7 becomes available to all players—or shortly thereafter. Once implemented, Crossplay will significantly expand the shared multiplayer ecosystem for Terraria across multiple platforms.
Perhaps the biggest announcement, however, is Re-Logic's renewed vision for Terraria's future. The studio confirmed that it no longer views milestones such as version 1.4.6 as the game's endpoint.
Instead, Terraria will continue receiving new content and updates well beyond what was once considered its "final" version. The announcement reflects a significant shift in the studio's long-term strategy, demonstrating its commitment to supporting the game for years to come rather than bringing its journey to a close.
With update 1.4.5.7, Terraria is entering the final polishing stage of its current development cycle while simultaneously laying the foundation for an even longer future. Crossplay is drawing closer, gameplay continues to evolve, and most importantly, there is no sign that Terraria's remarkable journey is coming to an end anytime soon.Visit the game's official forum for more details, and don't forget to check out our price comparison platform to purchase Terraria at the best available price and take advantage of the latest deals.
