Konami held a one-hour-long Suikoden live broadcast, sharing updates on the series, announcing new games, an anime adaptation, and the launch trailer for the upcoming Suikoden I & II HD Remaster Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars. The remastered duology will be released on March 6 for all consoles and PC. It brings various enhancements to both games, such as HD backgrounds and illustrations, new effects for pixel art animations, improved soundtrack quality, and some quality-of-life gameplay features, including auto-save, conversation log, and the ability to speed up turn-based combat.
During the broadcast, Konami announced a new mobile game and an anime adaptation of Suikoden II. The event featured orchestral performances of the franchise’s iconic music, interviews with key development team members, and behind-the-scenes insights from composers and artists helping expand Suikoden globally in the coming years.
The new JRPG entry in the series is called Suikoden STAR Leap and will soon arrive on mobile devices. It takes place a few years before the events of Suikoden I but shortly after Suikoden V. Players will be able to explore lively, bustling towns and meet both new and familiar characters throughout their journeys. The game’s art style combines 2D pixel-art character designs with 3D environments. More details and the release date will be revealed in a future announcement.
During the live event, a new animated TV series was also announced. Produced by Konami’s animation studio in partnership with NBC Universal Entertainment Japan, the anime will introduce new fans to the rich mythology of Suikoden II, one of the franchise’s most acclaimed stories.
“We wanted to keep the greatness of the original story [Yoshitaka] Murayama-san created,” said Suikoden Producer Rui Naito. “[The show] is one way of showing the story – it is the anime!”
Creator Yoshitaka Murayama left Konami and developed his own spiritual successor to the series with Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes and the spinoff Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising. Unfortunately, Murayama passed away before the games were released. However, his series lives on, continuing to win over fans worldwide. The Suikoden Live broadcast and the launch of the Suikoden I & II HD Remaster reaffirms Konami’s commitment to expanding the RPG franchise, with more news to be revealed in the future.
