Stygian: Outer Gods 1.0 Is Out Now: Full Release After Early Access
Release date Updates & Patches

Stygian: Outer Gods, the Lovecraftian survival-horror RPG by Misterial Games and Fulqrum Publishing, has left Early Access. The 1.0 release went live on October 26, 2026 on PC via Steam and GOG, after eighteen months in Early Access. Other than the improvements made to the game during that period, the developer studio has released the final version of the game with significant novelties, aiming to offer an unforgettable eerie experience for those willing to dive into this adventure.

What is Stygian: Outer Gods?

Set in the universe of Stygian: Reign of the Old Ones, the game is a prequel to that story's catastrophe, the Black Day. In Stygian: Outer Gods, you play Jack Harrison, a former anthropologist and soldier haunted by nightmares and the unsolved disappearance of his father, who arrives in the port town of Kingsport and is drawn into a thousand-year-old mystery. Soon after you arrive at Kingsport, you will discover that there is more than meets the eye in this small town covered by an eerie fog. Whether you choose to fight or evade the challenging enemies that you will face in this adventure, your adventure will be full of unexpected challenges.

The game is a survival horror experience with RPG elements built on Unreal Engine 5. It features scavenging, crafting, sanity that can break, and choices with lasting consequences. Every bullet and every decision counts.

Survival, sanity and choices

Staying alive in Kingsport means making difficult decisions with limited resources. You scavenge supplies, craft tools and remedies, and prepare for dangers that threaten both physical health and mental stability. Psychological afflictions can shape the experience, while character progression offers different ways to develop abilities. Exploration and investigation go hand in hand with combat, and your choices branch the story, but every revelation risks drawing you closer to forces beyond human comprehension.

What's new in the 1.0 release

Stygian: Outer Gods has seen plenty of improvements since it entered Early Access. Now, the full release brings the story to its conclusion and expands the content built up through that period:

  • Complete story — a new chapter that finishes Jack Harrison's journey
  • New enemies, including a formidable boss encounter
  • Additional puzzles, artifacts and weapons
  • Localizations — the 1.0 version adds French, German, Brazilian Portuguese, Spanish, Simplified Chinese and Russian

How it compares to other Lovecraft-inspired games

If you're weighing it against the rest of the genre, Stygian: Outer Gods sits on the survival-horror end of the Lovecraft spectrum.

The Sinking City (Frogwares) is the closest big-name cousin: an open-world investigation game set in flooded Oakmont, where detective work — crime scenes, clues, deductions in the mind palace — drives the experience, and combat stays light. It's about solving the horror. Stygian: Outer Gods is about surviving it: resource management, crafting, sanity and scarcity are the core loop, with character progression bolted on top. If you preferred reading case files over rationing bullets, look to The Sinking City (and its sequel, The Sinking City 2, which is already available); if you want the dread of a dwindling inventory and a mind coming apart, Stygian: Outer Gods is your game.

Dredge (Black Salt Games) shows the other end of the genre: a fishing and exploration loop wrapped in creeping cosmic dread — calm by day, unsettling by night. Stygian: Outer Gods is the heavier, story-first take: the same slow-burn atmosphere, but with combat, survival pressure and branching consequences front and center. If you loved the mood of Dredge but wanted more teeth, this is a natural step up in intensity.

Digital Artbook and Heretic's Arsenal

Three extras are available alongside the game as paid DLC:

  • Official Digital Artbook — almost 200 pages of artwork from the game's Lovecraftian world
  • The Heretic's Arsenal Pack — an enigmatic artifact and two deadly melee weapons
  • Official Soundtrack — haunting melodies and eerie atmospheric compositions

Consoles: planned, not dated

PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions are planned by the studio, but no release date has been announced for them yet — as of October 28, 2026. For now, the 1.0 launch is PC-only via Steam and GOG.
