Spelunky 2 won’t launch this year
The launch of the sequel to the very popular roguelike platformer Spelunky has been delayed. We were expecting to be able to play Spelunky 2 in 2019, but it seems that this is not going to be possible according to the words of developer Derek Yu. He has stated on Twitter that they just need more time to finish the game. He did not commit to a release date in 2020 so all the fans of the original Spelunky may find themselves waiting quite a long more than expected.
Hey, Spelunky fans! Unfortunately, I don't think we're going to get to release Spelunky 2 this year. Development is still going well and we're not far off target, but the density and detail of the game is demanding more time.

It's been a long time since Spelunky 2 was announced at Paris Games Week 2017 and since then, Mossmouth and Blitworks have been working very hard to finish the game. It looks like the increasing complexity and detail of the scenarios along with all the new features demand far more time than they initially expected. Procedurally generated scenarios which include novelties like liquid physics, mounts, new characters, and cooperative multiplayer online for several players are more than enough reasons to be excited about Spelunky 2. If you take a look at the gameplay video, you will see that the game already looks awesome, so waiting a bit longer for its release is definitely going to be worth it.
Spelunky 2 will follow the adventures of Ana Spelunky and her friends as they journey deep underground to discover amazing locations full of traps, treasures, secrets and a lot of enemies, of course. It's coming to PlayStation 4 and PC whenever it is ready. We hope that it's as soon as possible.
