Silent Hill officially confirmed; Konami to announce return

“In my restless dreams, I see that town—Silent Hill.” So says Mary, the object of James Sunderland’s quest in Silent Hill 2. We’ve been steeped in Silent Hill rumors for some time now, from Bloober Team supposedly working on a Silent Hill 2 remake to leaked images of a new game. But now, Konami has officially confirmed it: the terrifying franchise is coming back. They will have an official announcement during an event called Silent Hill Transmission this Wednesday.

Notably, Masahiro Ito, art director and creature designer for Silent Hill 2, has retweeted the announcement, perhaps indicating he will be involved in the revival.

There hasn’t been a new game since 2012’s Silent Hill: Downpour, but it seems you can’t keep a good horror franchise down. Silent Hill’s return has been telegraphed many times this year alone. Back in May, four screenshots were leaked purportedly from a new Silent Hill game, only to be taken down by a DMCA strike. At the same time, game insiders leaked that Bloober Team was working on a remake of Silent Hill 2. Earlier this month, Christophe Gans, director of the Silent Hill movie, shared some juicy gossip that “multiple” games were in development.

Finally, South Korea’s game ratings committee had reportedly provided a rating for a game called Silent Hill: The Short Message, fueling rumors that an official announcement from Konami was coming soon. And here are.

In any case, we’ll see what Konami has in store during Silent Hill Transmission, coming this Wednesday, October 19. We don’t know why the event is called “Transmission,” but it may have something to do with the franchise’s infamous UFO endings. Meanwhile, you can whet your appetite for Halloween chills with a Silent Hill Homecoming PC key. For similar games, you can also check out The Medium and Layers of Fear.
