Release date

Serious Sam: Shatterverse has officially set its release date for August 31, 2026, on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. With the launch date getting closer, the new entry in the well-known FPS franchise is becoming a game worth keeping an eye on in the final weeks of the month.

Serious Sam Returns With a New Direction

Developed by Behaviour Interactive and published by Devolver Digital, Serious Sam: Shatterverse keeps the familiar FPS run-and-gun gameplay that the series is known for, but this time combines it with a roguelite formula and co-op support for up to five players.

One of the most notable new features is the ability to see multiple versions of Sam Stone from different universes appear together. When Uber Mental breaks the boundaries between dimensions, these different Serious Sams must work together to fight his forces and restore the Shatterverse.

Alongside familiar weapons and enemies, the game also introduces new content designed to make each run feel different. Runs can change from one playthrough to another, while players will encounter upgrades, anomalies, and hidden areas as they fight their way through the game.

Despite these changes, Serious Sam: Shatterverse still keeps the chaotic spirit that defines the franchise, with large battlefields, huge enemy hordes, and fast-paced firefights. It also gives players a chance to experience a new take on Serious Sam without completely losing the familiar elements that fans have come to know.

Serious Sam: Shatterverse will officially launch on August 31, 2026. With a new formula, multiple versions of Serious Sam appearing together, and familiar battles brought into a new setting, the game looks set to offer a noticeably different experience for fans of the series.

If they manage to maintain that balance between nostalgia and novelty, the game can satisfy both veteran and new players.

I'm glad Serious Sam is back with such a different approach. The cooperative roguelite mode breathes new life into the series without losing the frenetic action that has always defined it.

Shatterverse has a lot of potential, but the success of this new direction will depend on how well the roguelite loop is tuned. If the runs feel too repetitive or the progression too slow, the novelty may wear off quickly.

The blend of Serious Sam's aggressive gameplay and a roguelite structure has the potential to be innovative. The concept of different Sam versions also adds a touch of originality to the formula. The co-op mode for up to five players seems a particularly fitting style for the series, with hordes of enemies and battles that quickly erupt in all directions.

I've never been interested in Serious Sam except for the co-op mode.

The five-player co-op is probably the biggest thing here. Serious Sam has always worked well as pure chaos, so having five Sams running around at once could get completely ridiculous.
