Return to Monkey Island is exclusive to Nintendo Switch and PC
Yesterday's Nintendo Direct Mini left us with many announcements, but Return to Monkey Island deserves its own spot in our news section. Lucasarts' iconic graphic adventure, The Secret of Monkey Island, is one of the most famous games of all time, and its fans have been waiting for quite a long time to see the return of Guybrush Threepwood.
The untalented youngster went through several adventures already in his attempt to become a famous pirate, secure the love of Elain Marley, and thwart the evil plans of the undead pirate LeChuck. The original series's games underwent some changes for their modern versions, The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition and Monkey Island 2 Special Edition: LeChuck's Revenge. Also, Tales of Monkey Island offered a different approach to the series with the unique style of Telltale Games, but the fans have been eagerly waiting for the new installment of the series created by Ron Gilbert, which was announced a couple of years ago.
An exclusive game
Nintendo has scored a big hit by securing the release of Return to Monkey Island as an exclusive for its hybrid console, leaving PlayStation and Xbox out of the equation. A story that takes place after the events in Monkey Island 2 is bound to catch the attention of quite a lot of fans, especially since many of the creators of the original titles are part of the development team.
With modern visuals and a different art style in place, Return to Monkey island aims to bring back the unique sense of humor and hilarious stories that made The Secret of Monkey Island a game to be remembered for generations. You can take a peek at the new game in the gameplay trailer that was shown yesterday, which you can watch below.
The only bad news about the announcement is that no release date was confirmed. Still, Devolver Digital aims for a 2022 launch, so we may as well be able to play the game sooner than later. Remember that you can use our comparator to check out the best deals and buy Return to Monkey Island cheap ahead of its release on PC and Nintendo Switch this year.
