Nvidia claims Nintendo Switch 2 is 10 times more powerful than the original Switch

Nintendo has now effectively conducted two announcement events for the Switch 2. The latest generation hybrid console was first revealed to the public in January, and just yesterday, a more thorough overview of the device was finally presented. Although it included information on game compatibility, release date, pricing, and battery life, some features remained undisclosed. Fortunately, additional details are beginning to emerge.

Nintendo and Nvidia have confirmed that the Switch 2 will officially support Nvidia's widely-used Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) upscaling technology for game utilization. It has already been established that the Switch 2 will operate on a custom processor designed by Nvidia, featuring specialized RT Cores and Tensor Cores, which the company claims can deliver "breathtaking visuals and AI-driven improvements."

For those unfamiliar, the machine learning techniques employed by DLSS can upscale games that are running at lower resolutions while they are active. Thus far, it has only been observed on PCs equipped with Nvidia graphics hardware. However, it remains unclear what specific version of DLSS the console will support. According to Nvidia, the new chip powering the Switch 2 provides 10 times the graphical performance of the original Switch as well.

• Tensor Cores enhance AI-powered graphics while maintaining efficient power use.  
• RT Cores improve in-game realism through dynamic lighting and natural reflections.  
• Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) through NVIDIA G-SYNC in handheld mode guarantees exceptionally smooth, tear-free gameplay.

The Nintendo Switch 2 also includes a camera accessory sold separately, allowing players to engage in video chats while playing. Nvidia mentions that the chip's Tensor Cores enable the hybrid console to perform face tracking and background removal instantly during video calls, powered by AI.
