Lies of P just shadow-dropped its first DLC

Fans of Lies of P just got a major surprise at this year’s Summer Game Fest — the long-awaited Overture DLC is available now. Without any prior warning, Neowiz and Round8 Studio dropped the expansion during the showcase, catching even the most dedicated fans off guard.

Lies of P, a darkly reimagined Soulslike take on the story of Pinocchio, was one of the most critically acclaimed games of its kind upon release. Its polished combat, eerie aesthetic, and smart level design earned it comparisons to Bloodborne and other FromSoftware classics — high praise for any game not developed by the studio that pioneered the genre. Following its success, Neowiz confirmed that a DLC was in the works, but details had been scarce — until now.

The World Before Puppet Frenzy

The newly released Overture DLC acts as a prequel to the main story, taking players back to a time before the events of the base game — specifically before the chaotic Puppet Frenzy engulfed Krat. The expansion features new enemies, powerful bosses, and new areas to explore, all delivered with the same intense and stylish combat players have come to expect. From the brief launch trailer shown during Summer Game Fest, players can look forward to wicked new weapons — including a bow and razor-sharp claws — plus a fresh batch of haunting monsters.

Alongside the DLC, Lies of P also received a major update that introduces difficulty options for the first time — a controversial move in the Soulslike community. While some fans welcome the added accessibility, others argue it softens the experience. Still, the update opens the door for more players to enjoy the punishing but rewarding world of Lies of P at their own pace.

If you're looking to jump into Overture, make sure you’ve completed Chapter 9 in the base game. You’ll unlock the DLC via the Path of the Pilgrim area. And if you’re new to Lies of P, now might be the perfect time to dive in.
